Film production – NRW is the frontrunner
According to a survey by Goldmedia and the Hamburg Media School, a total of 773 production companies were active in film and television production across Germany in 2022. They produced around 777,000 minutes of video material, with entertainment formats accounting for the largest share.
Among the federal states, North Rhine-Westphalia is the frontrunner: 42% of the total volume of German film productions in 2022 was attributable to NRW. The top 3 film and TV production companies are also based, or at least have one office, in Germany’s most populous federal state.
